It took me a while to actually get the game to work - I downloaded it months ago and only recently saw the folder and thought to unzip it. I'm pretty sure I did something wrong in the download or the setup or something. I'm pretty sure that there's supposed to be music playing.
Once I got that done with, I soon realized how difficult this was. For me, anyway. Not being able to save (beyond a "quicksave" style save) hurt a lot. I soon took it for granted that I would perish and went on making characters destined to die, preferably with a bang; or I intended to let them die for role-playing purposes.
I picked up some useful knowledge, however, like not morphing as a man-beast (because for some reason, there seems to be no sprite for the beast form, which rather complicates combat), and not going up at the castle bridge and stepping onto the "pool of death" (a single square of water surrounded by three trees and a dock).
I also learned what a pain combat can be. Rushing straight at the enemy solves nothing, as I am then knocked back and take damage. So I have to zig-zag up and let them take the final step, which makes ranged enemies my greatest fear.
I took some comfort in seeing that this wasn't the final version. at least, I hope it's not the final version.
I actually like Castlevania RL, it's just annoying knowing I'm doomed from the start. And somewhat amusing.
Well, what OS are you running, are you getting any error messages on startup?
The invisible morph bug is to be fixed in the next bugfixing release; as for the pool of death, remember you can 'D'ive into the water and find a way back up.
Mastering ranged combat is a need in the game, you must attack enemies from far away using 'A'+direction or Space for long range, targetting enabled weapons.
Yep, it is not the final version, some work to do there still :)
Those and other tips are covered in the tutorial, worth giving it a quick play ;) Slash "The average player of your game will give it 5 minutes and the ditch it. If you don't grab him by the throat during those 5 minutes, you've failed." (Anubis, rgrd)
OS? I haven't a clue. I'm don't know much about computers beyond basic navigation and operating... what's an OS?
Meanwhile, I tried playing as a renegade, but that ended badly. At least I finally solved the mystery as to why sometimes I can aim ranged weapons and sometimes I can't.
Hope you are getting better! Slash "The average player of your game will give it 5 minutes and the ditch it. If you don't grab him by the throat during those 5 minutes, you've failed." (Anubis, rgrd)
I'm pretty sure at this point that my best bet is with man-beasts. They have more health, more speed, more healing herbs, and I got by without ranged weapons for quite a while, somehow.

Slight update: The music played at one point. Very, very quietly.
Other occasional glitches I've seen are the game crashing under certain circumstances, i.e. loading a save file or going to another area (in my case, the initial area with the destroyed carriage).
Otherwise... I'm good.
And on a gameplay note, my characters are like sea turtles: I make a lot of them, most of them die before the first day, but usually the remainder survive for a while.
