I really love the Castlevania game, its alot of fun, especially with all the different modes and scenarios available to play... Trouble is, Im new to this Roguelike thing and I REALLY suck at it. Heh. I can do okay as one of those Holy Knights in the main game, but everything else is a hassle. I was really wondering if there were any cheats to help me out till I get a handle on things. I know all about save scumming, btw. You can mock me all you want for my lack of skills. Just please help me too. :)
Unfortunately, there are no cheat codes programmed into the game :P
However, I can give you some tips (hopefully other better players have more useful pieces of advice)
* Dont get near enemies, favour mid ranged weapons if you are not still strong. * Jump wisely * Remember your healing items * Train to gain useful skills
Also remember, arena mode is meant as a challenge, only Blade-likes are likely to go far :)
Ah... I wonder how many people actually plays the game. This is sooo quiet.. Slash "The average player of your game will give it 5 minutes and the ditch it. If you don't grab him by the throat during those 5 minutes, you've failed." (Anubis, rgrd)

Slash, I'm still playing :-) Just yesterday evening, I was walking though the Castle Halls with a Vanquisher, before I got that fatal midi crash again. Oh well...
I'm compiling some notes regarding the current versions - bugs and issues observations, as well as suggestions for improvements. So you can expect to hear from me quite a lot in the future ;-) Please consider the environment before smashing this candlestick.
Waiting for those notes :) Slash "The average player of your game will give it 5 minutes and the ditch it. If you don't grab him by the throat during those 5 minutes, you've failed." (Anubis, rgrd)

Soon, soon! :-)
I have the notes divided in several sections: General, Vampire Renegade, Vanquisher (only one note here, though), Vampire Killer, and Prelude Arena (only 2 notes). Do you want to have them posted as separate threads, or all in one new thread? Please consider the environment before smashing this candlestick.
Well, posting them on different threads for each category would be nice
Thank you Slash "The average player of your game will give it 5 minutes and the ditch it. If you don't grab him by the throat during those 5 minutes, you've failed." (Anubis, rgrd)
I tried advertising it for a while. It seems to be too much of a hybrid to attract the usual crowd. I've heard roguefans call it too unrogueish and well, the not rogue crowd calls it too rogueish. The entry in the TIGDB has a really really bad rating too.
The reason I've been silent is cause there really aren't a lot of things to talk about right now. :D
I am happy if there is at least people who enjoy it..
I haven't updated last year, haven't advertised either, I feel what people needs is to hear some gameplay discussion to see what it really is about... probably...
But then, I feel the game lacks in many ways of gameplay.
Anyhow, the project I was working on is almost finished for its first version. I need a big bag of RFE's to shoot them down :) Slash "The average player of your game will give it 5 minutes and the ditch it. If you don't grab him by the throat during those 5 minutes, you've failed." (Anubis, rgrd)
Well I can make huge threads about suggestions but you're summonin demons there :P Discussions about gameplay, hrm. Well thing is, there isn't much do discuss. You can't just talk about how awesome it was to have killed that unique mob on level 10, barely alive. Coming out with just one HP left and your Wand of Haste broken after its last charge. You can't talk about gruesome or hilarious deaths, dodging that Shadowdragon, making a bloody run three levels up just to be killed by a Kobold. CVRL lacks those moments. If you die, you die because of the same reason like everyone else. Misjudging an enemy pattern.
Hrm, I'll make a huge suggestion thread, it probably will be another reading marathon and as always can be ignored or appreciated. ^^
